||“Music, in its infinite variety, is the source of inspiration for my paintings. Forged by the composer from air and sound, music has motion and shape and incredible emotional substance. As I paint, I listen over and over to feel the essence of each sound world and try to understand its particular beauty, its emotion, its unique character as well as architecture and form--then try to put that into paint on canvas."
In 2000, Gyulai created a critically acclaimed series of large paintings commissioned by The Philadelphia Orchestra and exhibited in celebration of their 100th season. She has also created series of paintings for the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia and the Music Institute of Chicago. She is currently Painter-in-Residence with the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra. Her work is in 86 private and corporate collections worldwide.
