Christine Williams has been working with textiles to create contemporary art and design since 1970. Her current work is inspired by the combination of old and new materials which inform the narrative content for each piece. She uses antique fabrics mostly Japanese origin, cut from her large collection of Obi and Kimono. These heavy brocade or light hand painted textiles are appliqued by hand to the transparent 100% silk Organza ground. The result is a textile work rich in content and visual beauty as well as meaning.
